Today, February 15, the European aerospace corporation Airbus presented financial statements for the fourth quarter and 2023 as a whole. Revenue in the fourth quarter increased by 11%, amounting to €22.9 billion. Net profit decreased by 13%, to €1.5 billion. In 2023, Airbus revenue also increased by 11%, to €65.5 billion. Net profit decreased by 11%, amounting to €3.8 billion.
The decline in earnings was expected and was primarily due to write-downs related to the spacecraft division. At the same time, operating profit from core activities in 2023 increased by 4%, to €5.8 billion. Airbus also predicts that it will continue to grow this year, reaching €6.5–7 billion. The growth in revenue and operating profit is associated with a sharp increase in aircraft ordered and delivered. During the year, Airbus received orders for almost 2,094 aircraft – an increase of 155% compared to 2022. The company delivered 735 aircraft to customers – 11% more than a year earlier.
Thus, Airbus has surpassed its main competitor, Boeing, in aircraft deliveries for the fifth time in a row. Boeing Corporation presented data for 2023 at the end of January: the company delivered 528 aircraft and received orders for 1,576. The company ended the year with a net loss of $2.2 billion. Airbus shares fell 1% today.
