AIP: 2023 will be a record year in terms of direct investment in industry

The volume of direct investments in the industry of Russia can grow to record values in 2023, the executive director of the Association of Industrial Parks of Russia (AIP) Denis Zhuravsky said at the conference “Regions of Russia: “new normal” and “industrial renaissance””organized by Publishing House “Kommersant”
“We do not expect any failure in terms of direct investment in the industry, on the contrary, it will be record-breaking to some extent. If earlier we talked about long-term projects and foreign investments, now the structure of demand for industrial infrastructure is changing. We have moved from the agenda of attracting investments and import substitution to the agenda of technological sovereignty. And here the approach to localization becomes fundamentally different,” said Mr. Zhuravsky.
According to the expert, the importance of industrial parks has recently grown dramatically, as the demand for ready-made sites has greatly increased.
“This is due to the speed of decision-making. It is required to replace the missing links in the supply chains, so sometimes new players appear, sometimes it is an expansion of production that requires ready-made infrastructure. And here the role of industrial parks has played in a new light, and their role is to provide investors with ready-made infrastructure here and now,” added Mr. Zhuravsky.
As Rosstat previously reported, in the first nine months of 2022, investment activity in Russia increased by 5.9% in annual terms. According to the results of the third quarter, it grew by 3.1%. According to the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the influx of investments was caused by the restructuring of the economy under international sanctions. In February, Bloomberg analysts wrote that the capital expenditures of Russian businesses increased by 6% in 2022, although at the beginning of the crisis they were predicted to fall by 20%. As Bloomberg explained, the Russian government’s investment in business increased to record levels due to export earnings.
