After the crash of an Il-76 shot down by the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the Belgorod region, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky summoned Defense Minister Umerov, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Zaluzhny, Chief of the General Staff Shaptala, Intelligence Chief Budanov and SBU Head Malyuk.
After hearing the reports, Zelensky called for all the facts of the disaster to be established as far as possible.
“The plane crashed on the territory of the Russian Federation – beyond our control. Now the main thing for us is the facts. I listened to the Commander-in-Chief and the General Staff on the use of air force. The Main Intelligence Directorate is clarifying the fate of all prisoners, and SBU officers are investigating all the circumstances,” Zelensky said.
He also added that he instructed the Foreign Ministry to inform Western partners about this incident. Also, according to him, Kyiv will insist on an international investigation into the plane crash.
On January 24, the Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down a Russian Il-76 military transport aircraft in the Belgorod region, which was carrying captured Ukrainian soldiers. They all died. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian authorities knew about the impending transportation of prisoners for exchange.
