After tanks, NATO is discussing the transfer of fighter jets to Ukraine

NATO countries are conducting internal discussions about the possibility of supplying fighter jets to Kyiv, Politico reported on January 26, citing its own sources among officials and diplomats. “A conversation with more than six representatives of Western military departments and diplomats confirms that internal debates about the possibility of delivering fighter jets to Ukraine are already underway,” Politico said in a publication. For example, a diplomat from a northern European country called the transfer of combat aircraft “the next natural step.”
According to the negotiators, the debate over the air component could be even more heated than the debate over tanks. At the moment, among the ardent supporters of the idea of sending fighters to Ukraine, the Baltic countries are mentioned. In Washington, according to one of Politico’s sources, they told representatives of Kyiv that sending fighter jets “is not possible at the moment.” At the same time, the same European diplomat recalled that the “red line” on the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine had already been pushed back more than once: in the summer of 2022, it was considered the supply of HIMARS MLRS, which were then transferred to Kyiv, the same thing happened with tanks.
