Aeroflot plans to buy out 47 aircraft and transfer them from a new leasing company

Aeroflot is negotiating the purchase of 47 aircraft and is negotiating an insurance settlement with foreign lessors for this. This was announced at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum (SPIEF) by the company’s CEO Sergei Aleksandrovsky.

“The process turned out to be a little more difficult and longer than we expected. At the same time, we are quite actively moving on the insurance settlement with lessors, about 47 aircraft are in operation,” said the CEO of Aeroflot. He added that the negotiation process is “in a fairly active phase.”

The purchase of the aircraft will be financed from the National Welfare Fund (NWF). Then the repurchased aircraft will be transferred to a new leasing company, which will ensure the return of funds from the National Welfare Fund.

“Ultimately, this company will become captive (an insurance company owned by the parent structure – Kommersant.) for Aeroflot,” Sergei Alexandrovsky explained. At the same time, he noted that other carriers also communicate with lessors on the subject of insurance settlement and, most likely, will consider the option of creating leasing companies and then transferring aircraft to them.

For the purchase of aircraft from lessors, the government allocated 300 billion rubles, reported in March of this year. It is assumed that airlines will be able to receive funds from the National Welfare Fund at a rate of 1.5% for 15 years for the buyout. In 2022, Aeroflot purchased 18 aircraft from financial leasing.
