Actor, chairman of the Union of Theater Workers of Russia Alexander Kalyagin opposed the initiative to deprive the titles of artists who left the Russian Federation. In his opinion, his colleagues made a “wrong decision”.

Kalyagin noted that “not every actor can be instilled with such topics as culture, Motherland.” He stressed that this is a “personal choice” of the artists.

“It’s a pity, because they are talented people, but this is their choice. And the choice, which I do not welcome at all, especially in the years of the country’s difficulties, you have to be with it,” Kalyagin said.

He also said that the artists who left made a big mistake and someday they themselves will answer whether they did the right thing or not.

Kalyagin added that only a small group of artists left the country, in his words, “this is not a Russian theater.” He also expressed confidence that Russia will never lack theatrical talents.
