Abramchenko: the decision to extend the grain deal will be made until November 19

The decision on the possibility of extending the grain deal will be made by the Russian government before its expiration date, November 19, Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko said.

“On the 19th, our deal expires, a decision will be made by this date. The Russian Federation is a reliable supplier, so we are for there to be no restrictions, ”she noted (quote according to TASS).

Abramchenko recalled that under the terms of the grain deal, the parties agreed to remove all barriers and restrictions related to freight and mutual settlements through interbank systems for food supplies. To date, 431 vessels have already taken part in the deal, which supplied agricultural products, the Deputy Prime Minister added.

Negotiations between the Russian side and UN representatives to extend the grain deal began in mid-October. To this end, UN Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths and head of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebeca Greenspan arrived in Moscow. Russia suspended participation in the grain deal on October 29 after the Ukrainian side attacked ships of the Black Sea Fleet with drones in the roadstead in Sevastopol, using the humanitarian corridor intended for grain ships to attack.

On November 2, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the resumption of Russia’s participation in the Ukrainian grain deal. The ministry emphasized that the Russian side received written guarantees from Ukraine not to use the grain corridor for combat operations against Russia.

November 12 Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Vershinin declaredthat the issue of extending the grain deal has not yet been resolved.
