About 1.5 million people have fled their homes in the Gaza Strip

Since the beginning of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, 1.5 million people have left their homes in the Gaza Strip, which is about 70% of the enclave’s population. RIA Novosti about this reports with reference to the press service of the government of the Gaza Strip, associated with the Palestinian group Hamas.

“70% of the population of the Gaza Strip – 1.5 million citizens – were forced to leave their homes, they live in reception centers,” the press service said in a statement.

After the attack on Israel by the Hamas group, the Jewish state announced the start of Operation Iron Swords, and the army began striking militant targets in the Gaza Strip. At the UN reported that on the first day of fighting, October 7, 20,000 people were displaced from their homes in the Gaza Strip, and since then the number of displaced people has been growing.

Then the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) requested $104 million for multidisciplinary humanitarian assistance within 90 days. It was specified that the funds would be used to meet the immediate needs for food, non-food items, health care, shelter and protection for 250,000 people seeking asylum in UNRWA shelters in the Gaza Strip, and another 250,000 Palestinian refugees within the community.

Israel also announced evacuation. In particular, on October 22, it became known that preparations were being made to relocate residents from communities in the north of the country on the border with Lebanon, from where shelling is also taking place.

According to the latest data, more than 6,000 people have died as a result of the conflict, of which more than 4,600 were killed on the Palestinian side.
