The number of seriously wounded soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) has increased by 30% over the past few weeks, ABC News reports, citing the chief physician of the hospital in Dnipro, Dr. Sergei Ryzhenko.
He noted that the Mechnikov hospital, located several hours away from the combat zone, receives from 40 to 100 seriously wounded people every day. The hospital’s medical staff performs 50 to 100 surgical operations daily.
Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the enemy had lost more than 215 thousand people in 2023. President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky announced a request from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to mobilize an additional 500 thousand people. At the end of December, the authorities introduced a bill on mobilization to the Verkhovna Rada, which provides for the abolition of compulsory service and deferments for disabled people of the third group. The document also proposes that citizens be included in the register of debtors for failure to appear at the military registration and enlistment office.
