A US Senate committee supported the idea of transferring Russian assets to Ukraine

A Senate committee in the US Congress supported a draft law providing for the transfer to the Ukrainian authorities of Russian assets frozen in American jurisdiction as part of sanctions.
20 members of the relevant committee spoke in support of this initiative, only Senator Rand Paul voted against it.
The next stage of the legislative procedure will be to submit the bill to a vote of the full Senate.
Previously, Western sources warned that the confiscation of Russian property carries financial risks for Western countries and is not a panacea for Ukraine. According to US Special Representative for Economic Recovery Penny Pritzker, who said that if any decision was to be made, it would be should be universal and involving a huge number of lawyers for consultations.
Russian Foreign Ministry Speaker Maria Zakharova invited the world community to ask the United States a question about when it will pay off its own debts to other states. Commenting on American initiatives to seize Russian assets, Zakharova called it expropriation of other people’s moneyand real ones at that.
