The report of the US Congress-appointed Strategic Policy Commission notes that the country should prepare for possible armed conflicts simultaneously with Russia and China. IN document lists measures that should be taken to ensure national security during growing tensions with both powers.
As reported by Reuters, one senior US official noted that there could be final coordination between Moscow and Beijing on nuclear weapons, which would “lead the US to a two-war design.”
According to the 145-page report, the US military must be expanded and modernized, and the nuclear weapons modernization program must be fully funded.
Other proposals in the report include deploying more tactical nuclear weapons to Asia and Europe, as well as developing plans to stock reserve U.S. nuclear warheads, produce more B-21 stealth bombers and new Columbia-class nuclear submarines.
Senator Jon Kyl, speaking at a press conference on the release of the report, emphasized that large defense spending is a small price to pay to prevent a possible nuclear war that could involve the United States, China and Russia.
