About 40% of British citizens aged 18 to 40 would refuse to serve in the army in the event of a world war, according to a YouGov poll.
As noted, if the enemy invaded British territory, there would be fewer draft dodgers, but not by much – 30% of citizens of the above age.
At the outbreak of World War II, only 7% of young Britons would volunteer to join the army. 21% agree to do this if there is a call. At the same time, 38% do not want to serve under any circumstances.
As the survey organizers note, they chose this age category taking into account the conscription age in Great Britain during the First and Second World Wars.
Britain’s army chief previously said that the British authorities must prepare the public morally for the fact that in the future they may have to fight with Russia, in which case many Britons will need to serve in the army.
