A tanker with a diesel engine from a vessel previously sailing under the Russian flag was not allowed into the port of Spain

The maritime command of Tarragona of the Main Directorate of the Merchant Fleet under the Ministry of Transport of Spain has banned the Maersk Magellan ship from entering the port of the city to unload diesel fuel, since the cargo comes from the Nobel ship, which sailed under the Russian flag until July 1, 2022, reported in the Spanish Ministry of Transport.

The measure was taken in accordance with EU law, which prohibits access for any ship registered under the Russian flag since April 16, 2022 or changing flag after February 24, 2022.

The ministry clarified that the check was carried out on February 9, after which the ban was agreed.

The ministry recalled that this is not the first time that ships have been banned from entering Spanish ports. In April 2022, the port of Barcelona denied access to the Maltese-flagged vessel Black Star, which was carrying cargo from a Russian-flagged vessel.

In 2022, after the strengthening of anti-Russian sanctions, the EU, the US and the UK imposed restrictions on the supply of Russian oil products, and then decided to limit fuel prices. From December 5, 2022, a price ceiling imposed by unfriendly countries on offshore oil supplies from the Russian Federation is in effect. At that time, a ceiling was set on Russian oil at $60/bbl. Also, from December 5, the EU embargo on offshore oil supplies from Russia has been in effect.
