The scientific director of the State Research Institute of Aviation Systems (GosNIIAS) Evgeny Fedosov believes that a sixth-generation combat aircraft may appear in Russia by 2050. The RAS academician said that experts are now thinking about its concept.

Mr. Fedosov wrote in a column for TASSthat GosNIIAS is conducting exploratory research and exchanging opinions with military experts about the new aircraft. “Such an aircraft should appear somewhere by 2050, but now we need to understand what armed conflicts of the future will be like,” Mr. Fedosov wrote.

The RAS academician noted that from generation to generation, combat aircraft become more complex and heavier, and therefore more expensive. In his opinion, the logic of complication is a “vicious practice.”

GosNIIAS is a leading center in the development of on-board aviation systems and equipment. Participates in the creation of aircraft at all stages. The founder of modeling methods for the design of automatic systems of any degree of complexity.
