A new head of the Ministry of Health has been appointed in the Irkutsk region – Kommersant

The acting Minister of Health of the region is represented in the Irkutsk region. The decree appointing Andrei Modestov to this position was signed by Governor Igor Kobzev on March 11. How clarifies press service of the regional government, a specially created commission will assist in the reception and transfer of cases to the new head of the Ministry of Health.
“In my work I will build on the instructions the governor gave today. Having studied the healthcare system of the Irkutsk region, I set myself a number of long-term goals. This is an increase in life expectancy for residents of the Irkutsk region and a decrease in mortality rates, the creation of a stable financial and economic bloc, as well as social support for doctors and patients,” Andrey Modestov is quoted as saying in the press service of the government of the Angara region.
Andrey Modestov was born in 1965 in Krasnoyarsk, graduated from the medical faculty of the Krasnoyarsk State Medical Institute. Oncologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences. For about 20 years he headed state medical institutions, including the Krasnoyarsk Oncology Center.
The post of Minister of Health of the Irkutsk Region has been vacant since the end of December 2021, when Yakov Sandakov left it. Currently, Mr. Sandakov is accused in three criminal cases related to bribery, money laundering and negligence. The case has been pending in the Kirovsky District Court of Irkutsk since the beginning of 2024. Sandakov’s predecessor as minister, Natalya Ledyaeva, was sentenced to seven years in prison in December 2022 for fraud in the supply of medical masks to medical institutions in the region.
