The head of the Kyiv District Administrative Court, Pavel Vovk, came under US sanctions on Friday. The State Department accused him of “extorting bribes for interfering in judicial and other government processes.”
As part of this action, sanctions were also imposed against two closest members of the Vovk family, according to a statement on the State Department website.
According to the Ukrainian media, anti-corruption agencies sponsored by the West (NABU and SAP), as well as activists associated with Western structures, have long been waging a “total war” with Vovk. With their submission, Vovk became almost the personification of corruption in the Ukrainian judicial system.
Criminal cases were opened against him, in one of them Vovk is accused.
But Vovk is still in his post and was even re-elected, and only the High Council of Justice, whose work is actually blocked, can dismiss him.
