Turkish authorities have detained a foreigner who is allegedly involved in the terrorist organization “Islamic state” (IG, the group is banned in Russia). He planned attacks in the tourist spots of Istanbul, transmits Anadolu agency, citing law enforcement agencies.
It is specified that the foreign citizen was detained by the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs with the support of special services. It is assumed that he belongs to the terrorist organization ISIS.
The agency writes that during the search, the symbols of a terrorist group, as well as edged weapons, were found on the foreigner. The court decided to arrest him.
The detainee (initials M.A) planned attacks in the crowded and popular tourist areas of Istanbul, the city’s security department said. It is noted that the foreigner also posted threatening videos on social networks.
In mid-November in the center of Istanbul on Istiklal Street happened explosion. As a result of this incident, 6 people died and 81 were injured. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that, according to preliminary data, the incident has signs of terrorism. The Istanbul prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case in connection with the incident, a terrorist attack was considered as the reason.
The person involved in the incident was later arrested. According to the Interior Ministry, the alleged culprit is the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Ankara considers terrorist. The Istanbul security department said that the detainee is a citizen of Syria, her name is Ahlam Albashir. Law enforcement noted that she confessed to being a member of the PKK.
