Deputies have submitted to the State Duma a draft appeal from deputies to the UN due to the mass deaths of children in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. About it testify data from the Duma electronic database.
The initiators of the appeal were the State Duma Committees on International Affairs and on Family, Women and Children, as well as Deputy Anna Kuznetsova. The authors called on the UN and parliaments of other countries to support the demand “to immediately, without preconditions, stop hostilities and stop the indiscriminate use of lethal weapons leading to the death of civilians.”
“Only by uniting the efforts of governments, parliaments, civil society around the United Nations and the UN Security Council, can we save the children of Palestine, Israel and neighboring countries involved in this long-standing conflict from death and suffering,” the document says.
Parliamentarians, citing the Palestinian Ministry of Health, noted that children make up 40% of the total number of deaths during the escalation of the conflict. According to the UN Children’s Fund, we are talking about the death of almost 3,000 minors, and more than 5,000 children were injured. The State Duma reported that about 400 children are injured or killed in the conflict zone every day.
On October 19, State Duma deputies supported the draft appeal “To the UN and the parliaments of the world in connection with the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.” In it, the deputies urge “to immediately take all possible measures to immediately stop the bloodshed and the escalation of violence against civilians during the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.”
In the document, parliamentarians also condemned the violation of international humanitarian law by the parties to the conflict and, in particular, the October 17 rocket attack on a hospital in Gaza.
