Greek citizen arrested in Austria on suspicion of spying for Russia

Employees of the special forces detachment of the Austrian Ministry of Internal Affairs “Cobra” carried out an operation to detain a 39-year-old citizen of Greece, suspected by the country’s special services of espionage in the interests of Russia. About it tells Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung.
According to the newspaper, special forces officers detained a “Greek citizen of Russian origin” and searched his house near Vienna. As noted, the suspect is the son of an ex-employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of Russia, who during his service worked as a diplomat in Germany and Austria.
The Austrian State Security and Intelligence Directorate revealed contacts of the detainee with diplomats and intelligence officers from different states. The man was also suspected of disclosing state secrets. According to the newspaper, during a search in the house of the detainee, listening devices and several mobile phones, laptops and tablets were found.
