The introduction of a price ceiling for gas is contrary to the laws of the markets and may lead to their destabilization. Such a statement in a conversation with RIA Novosti did Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Yury Sentyurin.

“These are countermarket instruments. In my opinion, all this leads to such an unpleasant consequence as the degradation of markets,” he said.

The diplomat called such ideas “crazy” and said that the measures being discussed are “a violation of international law.” Sentyurin added that such initiatives destabilize the markets and increase the level of uncertainty.

In November, the EU countries began an active discussion of the price ceiling for gas. The European Commission has proposed launching a mechanism to limit energy prices if two conditions are met. First, the price of gas exceeds 275 euros per MWh for two weeks. Second, the price of TTF is 58 euros higher than the base price of LNG for 10 trading days. At the same time, the Czech authorities called for a reduction in the price limit to 220 euros.

11 December Bloomberg learned about about disagreements on this issue among the countries of the Commonwealth. 13 EU energy ministers failed agree on a price limit for gas. December 15 EU summit also couldn’t agree on a price ceiling and determine the principle of common energy resource purchases. At the same time, the EU noted the achievement of the program in this matter. Today, December 19, energy ministers will once again discuss the marginal gas price.

The Kremlin has repeatedly stressed that Russia will not supply energy to countries that join the price ceiling.
