Olympic ice dancing champion Roman Kostomarov said that he feels like a full-fledged person using prosthetics. However, the time spent without them is the hardest for him.
“When you come home and unfasten everything, you realize that you are like a cockroach on your back that cannot turn over. And you feel that way in the morning too. Then, when you put everything on, you drive a car, you feel normal, you live,” Kostomarov said in on air program “Will Show” (quote from Sport.Express).
In January last year, Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized with a severe form of pneumonia. He developed sepsis. Doctors amputated the athlete’s legs at the knee and the fingers of both hands. He was discharged from the hospital, where he spent 175 days, in July. On December 11, 2023, for the first time since surgery, he came out on the ice skating.
