Singapore will invest over $1 billion to develop its artificial intelligence industry and human talent over the next five years. The state will allocate the money as part of the NIAS 2.0 program, that is, the National AI Strategy.
Its task is to improve the skills of people aged 40 years and older so that they remain in demand in the labor market in the near future. The latter, Singapore authorities believe, is changing under the influence of artificial intelligence technologies much faster than previous forecasts. As an example, officials compared the videos that AI tools generated a year ago with the impressive capabilities of the Sora service, introduced in mid-February.
The subsidy scheme developed by the government of the country provides for payments in the amount of $4 thousand, covering at least 90% of the cost of a second full-time higher education diploma. Of course, the profession you receive should focus on employment opportunities in an AI-related field.
In particular, citizens aged 40+ will be able to receive a second degree at the National University of Singapore and the country’s main technical university, Nanyang University, with funds from the state, reports the portal eightify.app. And a separate program, SkillsFuture Level Up, for example, is designed to solve not only educational issues for students aged 40 to 60, but also problems related to child care. And this is about another $100 million in support annually.
In Russia, such initiatives are not openly discussed by the state. At the same time, there is a particular example of a successful interview for a position in an IT company with a salary of 400 thousand rubles, which the applicant passed for another person using real-time face replacement technology. It didn’t work the first time, but that doesn’t change the essence. Artificial intelligence helped get a job, or, one might say, helped steal it from someone truly worthy of this position.
