“Torpedo” lost to the outsider of the Western Conference

Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo hockey players continue to play in the regular KHL championship of the 2023-2024 season. The team from Nizhny Novgorod shows excellent results and is in the first half of the Western Conference standings, challenging the strongest representatives of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yaroslavl. At the moment, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod is in 5th place in the Western Conference standings, having scored 63 points based on the results of 52 matches played. In 2024, Torpedo performs poorly and often loses to weaker competitors.

In the home match against Vityaz near Moscow, the Torpedo hockey players were considered favorites, but could not justify their status and lost to the opponent, who lost almost all chances of getting into the playoffs of the Gagarin Cup. The Nizhny Novgorod team played a weak match and lost to Vityaz in all respects. The red-whites scored in the 1st and 2nd periods, and Torpedo responded only once, reducing the gap to a minimum. Defeat from Vityaz was definitely not part of the plans of Igor Larionov’s team, who risked losing 5th place in the Western Conference.

Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod will play the next match of the KHL regular championship on January 21. Igor Larionov’s team will host CSKA at their home arena.
