The final matches took place at the Fonbet group stage of the Russian Football Cup. In Quartet B, Rostov, beating Ural 2:1, took second place and advanced to the play-offs of the Russian Premier League. The Ekaterinburg team will continue to compete in the Path of Regions quarterfinals, as will Krasnodar, which was displaced from second to third place by Dynamo. In the last round, the Moscow club defeated Paris Nizhny Novgorod with a score of 2:1 and was ahead of the Kuban team in Group D in terms of additional indicators.
Of the three final matches of the sixth round of the group stage of the Russian Cup, one could already be called a friendly match, since CSKA And “Orenburg” guaranteed themselves participation in the play-offs of the “RPL Path” ahead of schedule. Well, perhaps the army team was a little motivated by the desire to still get there from first, not second place in Group A. The Orenburg team fielded a second squad, giving almost all of their leaders a rest.
However, the game unexpectedly turned out to be quite combative. CSKA did not manage to open the Orenburg defense until Abbosbek Faizullaev, who knew how to do tricks, forced Nikolai Titkov to foul himself in the penalty area. Fedor Chalov converted the penalty, but the guests also had a technician in their ranks – Emircan Gurlyuk, who single-handedly and very impressively scored the return goal. And yet, before the break, the hosts led 2:1, when Anton Zabolotny demonstrated enviable dexterity. After falling in a duel with a defender, he instantly reacted to Kelven’s discount and, jumping to his feet, headed the ball into the net.
The outcome of this confrontation was finally decided by Chalov in the middle of the second half, when Fayzullaev robbed Orenburg’s unwary central defender Renato Gojkovich and passed to his partner on an essentially empty goal. CSKA won 3:1 and finished first in the group with 11 points. The South Ural club scored the same amount, but they lost both head-to-head matches to the red and blue.
In the match “Dynamo” With “Nizhny Novgorod” the result was of interest only to Muscovites who did not want to end up in the so-called lower part of the play-off tournament bracket and go to the cup trophy through the dangerous “Path of the Regions”, where, unlike the “RPL Path”, the double elimination system does not work and the very first defeat leads to departure. But their opponent had absolutely no claim to anything, becoming the fourth wheel in Group D. At the same time, the blue and white needed a clean, three-point victory in order to move Krasnodar from second place to third, with equal points.
However, the scoring was opened by the unmotivated Nizhny Novgorod team, where Edgar Sevikyan showed off his individual skill. The visiting midfielder easily dealt with Jorge Carrascal inside the penalty area and curled the ball into the goal from under Sergei Parshivlyuk. True, Dynamo immediately restored equality when Konstantin Tyukavin successfully substituted Carrascal’s cross. And soon the Colombian played along with Tyukavin again, but this time Nizhny was helped out by goalkeeper Ivan Kukushkin and the post. On the other hand, danger also arose at the goal of Anton Shunin, who was helped by the crossbar in two episodes. Ilya Kukharchuk’s shot to the frame was especially beautiful. And Nikoloz Kutateladze missed another great chance at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Dynamo continued to balance on a fine line between victory and defeat. Yes, Kukushkin saved Nizhny when Fedor Smolov insidiously shot with a rebound, but Sevikyan also ran away one on one with Shunin, but for some reason forgot to hit. Then Smolov tried to force his shot and hit the crossbar. And the most lethal moment was ruined by Tyukavin, whom Denis Makarov brought to the open goal, but Nikita Kakkoev secured the backed goalkeeper and closed it with his own body. For the Nizhny Novgorod team, Alexander Troshechkin slightly missed out on an advantageous situation.
The Muscovites gradually completely seized the initiative and directly attacked the guests’ goal. In the last minutes the game completely moved into Kukushkin’s penalty area. And when it seemed that regular time would end in a draw, Daniil Fomin finally made an accurate pass to Yaroslav Gladyshev, who with a header brought the hosts a dramatic victory – 2:1. Thus, Dynamo beat Krasnodar with 11 points thanks to an advantage in personal meetings.
The match was truly fundamental “Rostov” And “Ural”, who argued for second place in Group B and determined which of them would go further “The RPL Path” and who would go to the “Path of the Regions”. Both teams had eight points, so any victory suited them. At the same time, the head coach of the Rostov team Valery Karpin missed the game due to disqualification, and they did not refuse the cup rotation of the squad.
The Yekaterinburg team could well have scored first – in particular, when Alexander Yushin hit the goal twice. But the hosts did it anyway, and played very actively at the end of the first half. Ivan Komarov was close to scoring twice, and in one case all the referees, including VAR, missed an obvious penalty when Kiki blocked the young Rostovite’s shot with his hand. In addition, Nikolai Komlichenko forgave the guests, and Viktor Melekhin scored in the 45th minute. The central defender came into someone else’s penalty area to throw an out and made the right decision. Komlichenko fought at the top and threw the ball to Melekhin, who acted like a real striker in the end.
Having let him into the locker room, as they say, Ural, it seems, only became even more angry. And in the opening of the second half, Guilherme Schettina produced a football masterpiece. The Brazilian picked up the ball in the opponent’s half of the field, dragged it almost to the penalty area and loaded it into the “nine”. Interestingly, a little earlier the referees canceled Schettine’s goal, which was indeed offside. But having equalized the score, the Yekaterinburg team exhaled too early and again lost control of the game. As a result, Komlichenko closed the flank pass of Daniil Utkin. And then Mohammad Mohebi could have increased the difference if not for a save by goalkeeper Alexei Mamin. Although in the end the hosts had enough of a minimal advantage – 2:1. Moreover, Ural defender Egor Filipenko was sent off in the 84th minute.
Thus, CSKA, Orenburg, Lokomotiv, Rostov, Zenit, Baltika, Spartak and Dynamo will play in the quarterfinals of the RPL Path. Sochi, Ural, Akhmat and Krasnodar will compete in the quarterfinals of the Path of Regions from the Premier League. Their opponents in the lower bracket of the play-offs of the Russian Cup will be four representatives of the first league, who passed the selection directly through the “Path of Regions”. These are SKA-Khabarovsk, Moscow Rodina, Khimki and Astrakhan Volgar.
