Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Russia will strengthen measures to counter external interference after the riots at Makhachkala airport. The meeting of Vladimir Putin that took place the day before was held behind closed doors.
“The meeting is closed. You yourself can guess from the composition of the participants that, of course, we will then talk about strengthening measures to counteract that same outside interference, including external information manipulations that can provoke the situation in our country, exploiting the theme of events in the Middle East,” Mr. Peskov said at the press call.
The spokesman added that “the situation will be analyzed.” Such “illegal manifestations,” as Dmitry Peskov clarified, must be minimized and completely eliminated in the future.
The day before, the Russian President spent meeting with representatives of the Security Council. The events at Makhachkala International Airport, according to Vladimir Putin, “were inspired through social networks by Western intelligence services.”
Riots in Makhachkala occurred on the evening of October 29. Crowds of people gathered at the airport to prevent Israeli citizens arriving in Russia from entering. Protesters broke onto the runway. According to the Republic’s Ministry of Health, as a result of the unrest suffered 20 people, including several police officers.
