Former Interpol president Björn Eriksson said Sweden should not abandon cash banknotes because Russian President Vladimir Putin could “turn off everything,” referring to banking communications. The words of the former head of Interpol are quoted by RIA Novosti.
In an interview with the British newspaper Telegraph, Ericsson said that for Sweden this issue relates to the area of national security.
“People have begun to realize that Vladimir Putin can easily turn everything off,” he said.
Ericsson believes that the active use of digital payments in the country is susceptible to cyber attacks, in addition, all of them will become impossible in the absence of electricity.
