According to information published by the Politico newspaper with reference to a government document, the administration of US President Joe Biden hopes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will follow NATO standards, despite the fact that Kiev’s membership in the alliance is not yet being considered.
The article notes that Ukraine plans to create a professional corps of junior officers and non-commissioned officers, consistent with the doctrine and principles of the North Atlantic Alliance. Politico also points out the need to use NATO terminology in Ukrainian documents.
The document also emphasizes the US desire for Ukraine to develop its own defense industry to meet the country’s basic needs.
In accordance with the American strategy, according to the publication, the United States seeks to maintain Ukrainian orientation towards the West and continue to develop “special ties” with Ukraine. One of the proposed methods is the introduction of English, which would help Ukrainians integrate. The document also proposes assistance to the Ukrainian Ministry of Education from the United States to improve English language teaching.
At the end of June, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky presented a bill on the status of English as a language of international communication in Ukraine to the Verkhovna Rada.
According to the text, English must be spoken by heads of local state administrations and their deputies, contract officers, prosecutors, tax and customs officials, mid- and senior-level police officers, as well as heads of other law enforcement agencies and civil protection services.
