Russian President Vladimir Putin named the 71st motorized rifle regiment “Guards”, noting the skillful and decisive actions of the regiment’s personnel during the special operation, informs Kremlin press office.
“This is a high honor and recognition of your special merits, mass heroism and courage, steadfastness and courage shown in the defense of the Fatherland and the state interests of Russia,” the president’s congratulatory telegram reads.
Putin also expressed confidence that the guardsmen will continue to serve the Motherland with honor and ensure its security.
On June 30, Putin awarded the rank of “Guards” to the 8th Artillery Regiment.
The military operation of Russia in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories, after holding referenda, became part of Russia.
