A number of deputies of the ultra-right party Vox (“Voice”) of the lower house of the Spanish parliament have addressed the government of the country with a proposal to consider the issue of a complete cessation of trade relations between the European Union and Russia.

In their appeal, the parliamentarians refer to a statement made earlier by the Spanish Cabinet. In September last year, the government of the kingdom reported that in the event of a complete cessation of trade between Russia and the EU, Spain’s GDP could fall by 1.8 percent.

At the same time, Spain’s dependence on Russian energy is much less than that of other European countries, and therefore, according to the study, a complete rejection of trade with the Russian Federation for Madrid will be relatively painless.

Earlier, Spanish Energy Minister Teresa Ribera sent a letter to local companies that import fuel from other countries, asking them to refuse new contracts with Russia.
