The Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on State Construction and Legislation at a meeting on Monday recommended that the Duma adopt in the second reading a bill on liability of up to 10 years in prison for collectors for violence or threats of its use against debtors.

The head of the Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, Vasily Piskarev, who is one of the authors of the initiative, explained that the relevant document proposes to assess the actions of collectors to return overdue debts that involve the use of violence or threats of its use as socially dangerous acts.

It is noted that such actions are punishable by up to five years, and if the crime is committed by a group of persons, then up to 10 years in prison. In addition, persons acting on behalf of the creditor or in his interests, an individual creditor or an employee of the creditor organization who have committed such acts may also be fined up to 500 thousand rubles or in the amount of the salary or other income of the convicted person for a period of up to three years. , and forced labor can become an alternative punishment.
