Poland plans to start building an electronic barrier on the border with the Russian Kaliningrad region in March 2023, reported Polskie Radio, citing a statement by Anna Michalska, spokeswoman for the border guard service.

According to her, the contractor is currently preparing a project that will be submitted for approval to the border guards. The barrier will cover approximately 200 km of the land border. Michalskaya noted that it will consist of a system of sensors and cameras, due to which the monitoring of the border will take place continuously without the need to stay on it.

“Thanks to it, officers can view the border at the headquarters of the border guard. Alerts will be sent from detection systems, and the algorithms for these alerts will be designed in such a way that the border guard can only respond to real attempts to cross the border by people, not animals,” she explained.

Radio, citing the press secretary of the Warmia-Mazury border control, Miroslava Aleksandrovich, also reported that in 2022, 11 cases of illegal border crossing from Russia to Poland were recorded. There are also cases of penetration into the border strip, but these were mushroom pickers and tourists who wanted to be photographed in front of the frontier post.

November 2, 2022 Minister of National Defense of Poland Mariusz Blaszczak informedthat Poland began building a barrier on the border with the Kaliningrad region. According to him, this decision was made to strengthen the security of the border due to the fact that the Kaliningrad airport became open for flights from the Middle East and Africa. The system at the border will consist of three rows of fences, a 2.5-meter-high fence will also be equipped with barbed wire, Blaschak said.

The plans of the Polish border service to build a wall on the border with Russia were announced on February 17, 2022 by the Deputy Minister of National Defense of the Republic, Wojciech Skurkiewicz. Poland borders on the Kaliningrad region, the length of the land section is 203.3 km.

About a similar decision in September 2022. declared Finnish authorities. It is noted that the length of the fence will be from 130 to 260 km, or 10-20% of the entire border, the length of which is about 1300 km. It is assumed that the service life of such a structure can reach 50 years.
