Nutritionist Yulia Khodos told in an interview with “Gazeta.Ru”how to eat nuts without harming your health. As the expert recalls, nuts are not only a source of high-quality protein, fats and fiber, but also the troubles caused by allergies, individual intolerance and banal overeating.

“Eating any nuts, it is important not to overeat, because they can cause allergies and individual intolerance, especially in children. Control portions and be sure to soak, process and dry nuts before eating, ”reminds the nutritionist.

Julia Hodos calls the norm 30-80 g of various types of nuts per day, and recommends alternating them for a week, observing the body’s reaction. At the same time, it is better, according to her, to eat nuts as a separate snack – with greens, vegetables or berries and try not to mix with other sources of protein.

The first nut, which the expert named among the most useful, is walnut: it contains a lot of omega-3 fatty acids that a person needs, but is not produced by the body. As Julia Khodos recalls, these nuts improve reproductive health and promote the growth and development of babies, and therefore this herbal product is recommended for both mothers and children.

Next on the list of nutritionists are Brazil nuts, rich in selenium and providing support for the thyroid gland, as well as pine nuts. The latter are very beneficial for the microbiota and are recommended for the prevention of pancreatic and rectal cancer.

Quite useful, as the expert points out, are nuts that are more exotic for our places: macadamia and cashews. The former contain thiamine, magnesium and manganese, which stimulate the production of substances necessary for brain function, as well as oleic and palmitoleic acids and omega-3 fatty acids. Cashews, in turn, are rich in vitamin K and protein, which are useful for preventing high blood pressure and maintaining men’s health. We should not forget, says Yulia Hodos, the well-known almond, which nourishes the intestinal microbiota and strengthens bones and teeth.
