Almost 5 million Russians cannot travel abroad for the New Year holidays due to debts. About this TASS reported in the Federal Bailiff Service (FSSP). In December 2022, the restriction applied to 8 million debtors.
Last year was a record year for the number of debtors. This figure has been growing since 2017 – then, before the New Year, 1.8 million Russians were banned from leaving because of debts, in 2018 – 3 million, in 2020 – 4.1 million.
In Moscow alone, over 11 months of this year, 742 thousand decisions were issued to restrict travel. More than half of the restrictions are still in force.
From October 2023, the order of the bailiffs to restrict the right to travel abroad became indefinite until the citizen repaid the debt. Previously, the restriction on leaving due to debt was extended every six months.
