At least 22 journalists have been killed since the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and another eight media workers were injured. reports Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

The conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip has taken a “severe toll” on journalists since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, and the Jewish state responded by declaring war and launching strikes on the blockaded Gaza Strip, the report said.

“The committee will investigate all reports of journalists killed, wounded, detained or missing during the war, including those affected by the spread of fighting into neighboring Lebanon. As of October 20, at least 22 journalists were among the more than 4,000 killed on both sides since the war began on October 7,” the organization said.

They noted that journalists face a particularly high risk in Gaza. Media workers are struggling to cover the conflict “in the face of Israeli ground attacks, devastating Israeli airstrikes, communications disruptions and widespread power outages,” CPJ notes.

According to the organization, 22 journalists have been confirmed dead, including 18 Palestinians, three Israelis and one Lebanese citizen. More media workers were injured, and three journalists were missing or detained.

CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator, Sherif Mansour, stressed that journalists across the region are “making great sacrifices to cover this heartbreaking conflict” and called on the parties to take measures to ensure safety.

Earlier, the committee reported the death of 12 journalists, and the Al Jazeera television channel, citing the Palestinian journalists’ union wrotethat 11 journalists have been killed since the start of Israeli bombings.
