Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at an expanded board of the Ministry of Defense, said that 2023 “was a busy year” for the Russian armed forces. However, according to him, all military personnel “professionally and courageously solved the problems” of the military operation in Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin noted that during the military operation, problems were identified that need to be solved soon: in particular, to rebuild communication systems, increase the production of high-precision projectiles and UAVs, improve the work of air defense and begin to more actively use modern reconnaissance technologies. However, according to the president, the objectives of the operation remain unchanged.

“This year, thanks to the consistent implementation of the state armaments program and the efficient work of defense enterprises, the level of modern weapons and equipment of the strategic nuclear forces as a whole has been brought to 95%, and the naval component to almost 100%,” the head of state indicated. He also noted that in 2023 the state defense order will be completed by 98%.

Commenting on the current situation in the combat zone in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin said that Russian troops “have the initiative, and the enemy has already wasted reserves.” According to him, all attempts to defeat the armed forces of the Russian Federation “failed due to the courage and fortitude of the Russian soldier.”

“I would like to thank the leadership and personnel of the Ministry of Defense for their service and for conscientiously fulfilling the tasks set by the Motherland. Special words of gratitude to everyone who fought and is fighting in the special military operation zone,” the president concluded.
