2 IAEA permanent observers to remain at Zaporozhye NPP

Two specialists from the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will remain at the Zaporozhye NPP on a permanent basis, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, said. transmits RIA Novosti agency.
“Two people will remain at ZNPP on a permanent basis. We welcome this, since the international presence is called upon to dispel numerous speculations regarding the state of affairs at the ZNPP,” he said. However, Ulyanov did not say which country these representatives were from, stressing that their nationality was of secondary importance.
He also noted that six more representatives of the IAEA, who specialize in safeguards and nuclear safety, will stay at ZNPP within a few days. Earlier, the head of the organization, Rafael Grossi, who also visited ZNPP, said that representatives of the agency would remain to assess the situation at the power plant until September 4 or 5.
The day before, an IAEA mission arrived at the Zaporozhye NPP and conducted an initial inspection, following which Grossi said that in a few hours he managed to collect enough important information and identify “key things”. The head of the organization also said today that the physical integrity of the ZNPP was violated several times, but so far he cannot say whether this happened by accident or intentionally.
The IAEA mission arrived at the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP the day before, on September 1, from the Ukrainian-controlled city of Zaporozhye. The experts inspected the territory of the station, accompanied by representatives of the Russian “Rosatom” and employees of the station. The specialists were also shown parts of the facility that had suffered from shelling by the Ukrainian military. Grossi left the station on the same day, leaving 8 experts and four escorts on it, said Alexander Volga, head of the military-civilian administration (CAA) of Energodar.
Earlier it was reported that the IAEA specialists will continue to work at the ZNPP until September 3. Grossi noted that the purpose of the mission is to prevent a nuclear accident. Among the experts who went to the station, there are no inspectors from Russia, Great Britain and the USA.
