140 people wanted to be evacuated from Sudan through the Russian embassy
140 people expressed their desire to evacuate from Sudan through the Russian embassy. Now this list is growing due to requests from citizens of the CIS countries and some other states. Andrey Chernovol, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Khartoum, told RIA Novosti about this.
He specified that the general list, which includes diplomats, citizens of Russia, etc., now contains about three hundred names. The diplomat stressed that evacuation plans are being drawn up. But at the moment it is not feasible, since any departure from the embassy is associated with crossing the line of contact of the warring parties. And in the current conditions, even with guarantees from both sides, the risk is very high.
Earlier, the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Russia, Mohammed Sirraj, said that the authorities of the republic would provide all the necessary support if evacuation was needed.
According to the latest data, airports in the country are still closed, as well as public transport.
Moscow is working on various options for the removal of diplomats from Sudan. This was reported to RIA Novosti by an informed source. Nevertheless, he stressed that in the current conditions it is very dangerous to take someone out.
