133,000 participants in the special operation in Ukraine received the status of a combat veteran, said Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection Olga Batalina at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
“All the guys who are serving today in the zone of a special military operation, regardless of the method of their mobilization, they all have the right to be awarded the status of a combat veteran,” clarified Batalina (quote from Interfax).
In April, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on granting the status of veterans and invalids of military operations to militiamen who fought on the side of the DPR and LPR since May 12, 2014. In June, the Ministry of Defense suggested to give such a status to persons who protect the regions adjacent to the areas of the special operation in Ukraine, and to new subjects.
In Russia, in 2023, a special fund “Defenders of the Fatherland” was created, which will help veterans and participants in the special operation. With funding from the government singled out RUB 1.314 billion
