A $1.7 trillion budget bill has been submitted to Congress for the fiscal year ending September 30. About it informs Reuters.
The agency notes that the document takes into account the allocation of $44.9 billion to help Ukraine and NATO allies.
It is noted that senators are in a hurry to pass the bill and submit it for signature to US President Joe Biden before the end of the week in order to prevent a shutdown.
Last week, on December 16, the US Senate also approved the defense budget for 2023 in the amount of $858 billion. The amount exceeded last year’s figure of $778 billion and became a record in the history of the country. The defense budget provides for the allocation of $800 million to Ukraine.
The Kremlin said that this document is confrontational in relation to Russia. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov admittedthat such a US approach to the allocation of funds for defense may further destabilize the situation in Europe.
Earlier, Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized Washington’s financial and military assistance to Kyiv. Back in April, Moscow sent a note of protest to all countries, including the United States, over military aid to Ukraine.
At the same time, the United States continues to provide military support to Ukraine. So, on December 13, CNN reported that the US presidential administration had completed preparations for sending the Patriot to Ukraine.
At the same time, the White House emphasizes that they are not at war with Russia. According to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the supply of Patriot missile systems to Ukraine does not mean Washington’s entry into a conflict with Moscow. The White House added that they would continue to provide military support to Kyiv.
