Yuri Grymov: “Today a scandal is needed in music videos, but I’m past it”

Theater director and artistic director of the Modern Theater Yuri Grymov, visiting MK, spoke about his impressions of America and working with young Alsou.

“Everything about America became clear to me during the time I was working in Las Vegas,” the guest shares his impressions. “I don’t want to offend the Americans, but I had the feeling that America is a business project.” This is puffing out the cheeks. After all, it is a young country, and of course, Russia with its centuries-old culture, Japan, Italy – I understand the ferment of the culture of these countries, from which all this grows.

“Alsu was a young girl, she was 14-15 years old. Yes, it’s difficult to work with an unprofessional person, with a girl who was afraid of everything, but she did everything anyway,” says Yuri Grymov. — I shot 4 videos for her, and then they all became kind of strange. When I’m an artist, I think about everything: how you dress, how you comb your hair, what color your hair is. And then she painted it black, I don’t really understand it. We work as a team, and don’t just take photos for memory. If we talk about today, now there is no romantic show business, burlesque, everything has become petty. I don’t think anyone needs complex video clips, they rather need a scandal, but I’m past that.”
