Yandex announced that it had launched the Yandex Hub, a gateway for smart home devices that connect via the Zigbee local wireless communication protocol. The device allows you to combine sensors, light bulbs, sockets and other components with Zigbee into one ecosystem with smart Yandex speakers, and is also equipped with an infrared port for controlling household appliances. The device is offered at a price of 4.9 thousand rubles.
“b” informed on Yandex’s intentions to release Yandex Hub back in September 2022. Then the only Yandex device supporting the Zigbee protocol was the second-generation Yandex Station, introduced at the end of 2021. Together with the Hub, the company introduced an updated version of the Station Max smart speaker with Zigbee support (price – 29.9 thousand rubles), as well as its own Zigbee sensors and buttons.
With one of the future updates, Yandex Hub and the new Yandex Station Max will receive support for Matter, a standard designed to ensure interoperability of smart home devices from competing manufacturers. Matter support has been announced by all key smart home ecosystem operators (Apple, Google, Samsung, and Amazon), but in 2023, smart home accessory brands Philips Hue and Belkin abandoned plans to add Matter support to their devices any time soon.
