Yandex has developed and will soon introduce its own electric scooter. This was reported Vedomosti a source in the company and confirmed the representative of “Yandex”. According to the source, the presentation will take place at the Yandex Yet another Conference on December 15.

The company said that the development was carried out by the manufacturer of electric scooters Wind, which Yandex bought in the fall of 2021. Now the scooter is being tested in Israel. It is planned to establish production at partner factories in China. Yandex claims that the specifics of their electric scooter “takes into account urban conditions in Russia,” but the company did not provide detailed specifications.

A Vedomosti source estimated the development cost at $10-15 million. According to him, the Yandex electric scooter is heavier than other models, which reduces the safety of the device. In addition, the driver of the scooter is higher from the ground, which reduces its stability when maneuvering. Also, the electric scooter accelerates quickly, has additional shock absorption of the rear wheel, and the platform for the driver is bent up, because of which it will not be possible to stand alone on the scooter, the source said.

A Vedomosti source in the company said that by spring, Yandex wants to increase its fleet of scooters from 20,000 to 70,000 units. Of these, up to 70% will be Yandex’s own scooters. The company intends to launch an electric scooter rental service in Yekaterinburg and Kazan, as well as in Kazakhstan. Now the service works in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tula and Krasnodar.
