Kommersant: China banned the export of Loongson processors to Russia

The Chinese government has banned the supply of Loongson processors based on its own LoongArch architecture to Russia and other countries due to the fact that the technology was recognized as strategically important. About it informed Kommersant, citing sources.
The interlocutor of the publication, close to the Ministry of Digital Development, noted that Russian electronics manufacturers have already tested these chips, but now it will not be possible to purchase a batch of these processors. According to him, although Russian manufacturers were not heavily dependent on Chinese solutions, they could switch to Loongson chips with a “theoretical blocking of parallel imports.”
Loongson Corporation was established in 2002, its goal was, among other things, to create alternative processors to American Intel and AMD. Last year, the company introduced its own LoongArch architecture, which can work with programs written for Intel and AMD. After the start of the special operation, the latter curtailed supplies to Russia. Now Intel products are on the list of goods for parallel import.
Chairman of the Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RASPP) Vitaly Mankevich said that he had no official information about the ban on the supply of Loongson processors. According to him, even if such a ban appears, the RAUIE “has many ways to purchase such goods through third countries and smaller companies.” He drew attention to the fact that all large Chinese companies that depend on the world market are trying not to advertise deliveries to Russia.
