Service “Yandex.Taxi is testing a new taxi service algorithm in Moscow, according to which the passenger will have to walk to a permitted parking spot if calling a car to a point where stopping is prohibited. About it writes RBC citing several sources in the taxi market. The information was also confirmed by the company.

The company gave the example of ordering a taxi to New Arbat, where parking is prohibited. “If a user tries to order a car there, the application will prompt him to walk a few meters to a point where there are no restrictions on parking,” explained Yandex.

It is clarified that the new algorithm started working a few weeks ago, so far it is only valid for a few streets in Moscow, but soon the area of its work will expand. The company noted that the user can “easily walk to all points proposed for landing in a few minutes.”

The new rules are aimed at enforcing traffic rules. In June, Izvestia with reference to data from the Federal State Institution Scientific Center for Traffic Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia wrote about reducing the number of accidents involving taxis. In 2022, 3,324 accidents involving taxis were recorded, which is 10.2% less than in 2021. At the same time, taxi drivers were responsible for 2,075 accidents.

The Russian Union of Auto Insurers reported that the lowest value of the bonus-malus coefficient (BMC) – from 0.46 to 0.57 – was recorded only in 12% of taxis. For 51%, the BMR is less than one, while 8% of taxis showed a high accident rate (BMR ranges from 1.76 to 3.92). According to the Central Bank, the frequency of insurance claims for taxis is seven times higher than for ordinary cars.
