X5 Group acquired 295 Tamerlan Group stores

Retailer X5 Group has agreed to acquire 100% of Tamerlan, which operates the Pokupochka, PokupAlko stores and Ga-Ga supermarkets in the Southern Federal District and the Stavropol Territory – a total of 295 stores, reported press office X5 Group.
The Tamerlan group of companies was founded in 1999, has more than 300 Pokupochka, PukupALKO, Ga-ga stores in the Volgograd, Astrakhan, Rostov regions, Stavropol Territory and Kalmykia, indicated on the company’s official website. In 2003-2013, the franchise company in the regions operated the stores of the Pyaterochka chain, owned by the X5 Group.
As the press service clarified, most of the acquired stores are located in the Volgograd region. Their total sales area is 124.2 thousand square meters. In addition, as part of the deal, X5 will acquire leasehold rights to a distribution center in the Volgograd region with an area of 30,000 sq. m. m., the company said.
“Thanks to the acquisition of Tamerlan, we will be able to expand our presence in the south of Russia and take a leading position in this region. At the same time, buyers will have more opportunities to purchase a wide range of goods at affordable prices in the stores of the largest Russian retailer, ”the press service quotes X5 Executive Director Igor Shekhterman as saying.
April 11 Federal Antimonopoly Service reported, which agreed on a deal to acquire the X5 Group retail chains “Pokupochka”, “PokupALKO”, “Ga-ga”, which are being developed by Tamerlan. At the same time, X5 Group retains the ability to sell or transfer retail outlets to third parties, the FAS report says. The cost of the deal between X5 Group and Tamerlane was not disclosed. The general director of Infoline-Analytics, Mikhail Burmistrov, estimates the total cost of Tamerlan at about 4–6 billion rubles.
