WSJ: Justin Bieber to sell rights to his music for $200 million

Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber is close to closing a deal to sell the copyright to his music with intellectual property management company Hipgnosis Songs Capital, reports The Wall Street Journal with reference to sources. The potential deal, which includes a catalog of the artist’s published and recorded compositions, could be worth $200 million.
Hipgnosis acquires the rights to artists’ music to generate revenue from its use in films, commercials and internet airplay. In October, investment group Blackstone and Hipgnosis Song Management announced a partnership and plans to invest up to $1 billion to buy artist catalogs.
Formerly American performer Justin Timberlake sold the rights to his songs to Hipgnosis Song Management, including the hits Cry Me A River and Rock Your Body. In June, Justin Bieber revealed that he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, which left the artist paralyzed part of his face.
