World art – close to home

An exhibition dedicated to the 135th anniversary of Marc Chagall has opened at the Belyaevo Gallery.

Exhibition halls in Moscow are launching a cycle of projects under the general name “Great Art Nearby”, which will present masterpieces of world art collected from private collections. One of the most important and priority tasks of the exhibition halls is the decentralization of art and the formation of culture in different parts of the city. That is why the project “Great Art Nearby” was born – this is a unique opportunity to see the world’s museum-level art close to home.

The first exhibition within the framework of the annual cycle was the project “Great Art Nearby. Chagall”, which opened in the Belyaevo Gallery and is dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the artist.

“Our main mission is to try to make art accessible to absolutely everyone, presenting different trends, styles and genres to the widest possible audience. We really want our galleries to become an entry point for understanding art, a guide to the world of culture. Now exhibition halls of Moscow are represented in 21 districts of the city, in each of which new expositions are constantly opening, master classes for children and adults, lectures and much more, and you can also buy works by young artists in our art markets at an affordable price. But this is the first time we are doing such a large-scale project. This is a very important step for us – to show masterpieces of world art in an area remote from the city center, thus we are one step closer to our goal, ”said Ksenia Faresova, director of exhibition halls in Moscow.

Marc Chagall is a Russian, Belarusian and French artist of Jewish origin, one of the most famous representatives of the artistic avant-garde of the 20th century. As researcher A.A. Kamensky – “Russia throughout Chagall’s long life was for him not only a biographical homeland (which, of course, is also extremely important). With Russia, the artist was forever associated with the initial moments of his art – the very concepts of beauty, love, life’s vocation, and finally, the plastic form and “chemistry” of color, which the master himself so often spoke about. The entire instinctive, subtextual element of his work, the entire soil of heterogeneous, sometimes unconsciously perceived traditions, are of Russian origin.

Visitors will get acquainted with the original works of circulation graphics by Marc Chagall, the works of other representatives of the Parisian school: Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Salvador Dali, who had a significant influence on Chagall’s work, as well as works by contemporary artists inspired by the work of the great master.
At the exhibition “Great Art Nearby. Chagall, in addition to world masterpieces, the exposition presents works of art by contemporary Moscow artists: Ekaterina Bubnova, Evgenia Voronova, Alexander Sokolov, Nadezhda Likhogrud, John Peshkov, who develop the style and themes of the representatives of the Parisian school. Since all the works for the exposition are collected from private collections, this is a unique opportunity to see the works of great masters that have never been presented in the museums of the city, and to get acquainted with a new direction for themselves – circulation graphics in the work of the most famous artists of the world.
