With Thélios, LVMH becomes a key player in luxury eyewear

Its Italian subsidiary produces nearly 4.5 million pairs a year for nine of the group’s fashion houses.

In May, at the Met Gala, the Spanish singer Rosalia caused a sensation with her futuristic black Givenchy glasses. A Nylon model presented at the end of June during the men’s fashion show of the label, in Paris. Only two weeks later, the glasses were available in stores as a limited edition.

A feat made possible by 3D printing in Longarone, in Thelios factoryaffiliate LVMH (Dior, Givenchy, Celine, Fendi…) dedicated to eyewear. This process used for the production of prototypes was, for the first time, used for series production. “3D printing is the future of the optical sector, says Alessandro Zanardo, who took over the reins of Thélios in February. It allows us to get even closer to the fashion calendar and better meet the expectations of our optician customers and consumers.»

With its 850 employees, the Longarone site, in the Dolomites valley renowned for its eyewear know-how, proves LVMH’s ambition in eyewear…
