Wall Street companies have abandoned strict dress codes in favor of relaxed style. The American publication Business Insider came to this conclusion. Journalists spoke with the heads of large financial corporations and found out that after the pandemic, many began to abandon ties and jackets. In return came a sporty style and a focus on comfort. “Wall Street may have returned to the office, but in sneakers and trousers, not suits,” the publication emphasizes.
“Kommersant FM” asked top managers of companies that work in the domestic financial center “Moscow City” how their clothing style requirements have changed:
Anastasia Kalmykova, director of the HR department at Digital Broker: “Previously, there was a dress code for everyone – both for sales managers and for other departments. We have abolished mandatory clothing requirements for non-selling employees, with the exception of meetings with contractors and some large business meetings. For sales managers, a dress code is required because they meet with clients. But we still have certain restrictions: sandals with socks, bright makeup, and large earrings are prohibited. Red is not acceptable in corporate colors. It is believed that this is the color of falling candles on the stock exchange. This is how stocks that are falling in price are designated. There is no direct ban, but the color red is not very welcome in everyday clothing.”
Marat Muradyan, regional director of public relations at the consulting company Nikoliers: “Our company has a dress code, it is related to continuity – being part of a large international company that adheres to corporate style in its daily work. Almost all large organizations have a dress code. On Friday the dress code is loose. Offices in the City began to be rented by IT companies that have looser requirements for employee clothing. That is, with their arrival, the dress code in Moscow City softened. Here you can often see people in casual clothes, Crocs, T-shirts, slippers. This is the specifics of their business. Ours involves meetings with top managers of companies. Accordingly, the employee must look appropriate. Naturally, going crazy and forcing a developer who doesn’t date anyone and sits in his office all day to wear a tie is pointless.”
Vyacheslav Kosakov, managing partner of the Novator legal group: “First of all, I have a law firm. For us, the dress code is an obligation. We are like doctors. When you come to the clinic, you are unlikely to see a doctor in shorts and a T-shirt. The client has a certain formed image of how he is used to seeing a lawyer, lawyer, and so on. We try to follow it in order not to destroy stereotypes. In general, I often spend time in Moscow City and see a more youthful IT vibe. Attention to clothing style is aimed at making it convenient and comfortable. They try to involve employees in the office atmosphere and make it as comfortable as possible for them. These are not tracksuits, but the fact that the dress code has become looser is certainly noticeable.”
Among those Wall Street companies that have abandoned strict adherence to dress codes are, for example, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, writes Business Insider.
