Kosogov Andrei Nikolaevich was born on March 15, 1961 in the city of Sillamäe (Estonia). In 1987 he graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) with a degree in Thermal Physics Engineer. After graduation, he worked as a secretary of the Komsomol at MPEI. Since 1990, he has been the commercial director of the small scientific enterprise “Center for Automation of Thermophysical Research” established at MPEI.

Since 1992 he has been working in the structure of Alfa Group. According to media reports, he came to an interview on the basis of an advertisement in the Moskovskiye Novosti newspaper, wrote a concept for participation in privatization for the group. In the same year, he created and until 2000 headed the voucher investment fund Alfa Capital. According to the recollections of the ex-member of the board of directors of Alfa-Bank Alexander Gafin, the fund bought up vouchers. The media wrote that, among other things, he bought up several cement production enterprises, created a holding on their basis and sold it to foreign buyers.

In 1998, after the merger of Alfa Capital and Alfa Bank, he received an option in the group, effectively becoming its co-owner. From 1998 to 2005 – First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Alfa-Bank. At that time, he oversaw its investment directions. At various times, he led transactions for the purchase of the STS TV channel and the shares of KievStar GSM, the sale of Muz-TV and the shares of Akrikhin, a major drug manufacturer.

After 2005, he retired from operational work, but retained his seat on the board of directors of AlfaCapitalPartners and the investment committee of Alfa-Bank. According to the top manager of Alfa-Bank Oleg Sysuev, this was a mutual decision of Kosogov himself and the bank’s shareholders.

According to media reports, in 2005-2009 he headed the Supervisory Board of Alfa-Bank in Ukraine. At various times, he oversaw the Borjomi project in the group, a specialized mortgage bank, was a member of the board of directors of AlfaStrakhovanie and headed the board of directors of the telecommunications company Altimo.

In February 2022, the EU imposed sanctions against the owners of the Alfa Group consortium, Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven. In March of the same year, Mr. Kosogov became the largest beneficiary of Alfa-Bank with a 41% share. For 2022, Forbes estimated his net worth at $1.2 billion.
